While some understand the term “Peppadew” to be name of a type of pepper, this is not true. PEPPADEW® is in fact a registered trademark and the brand name of Peppadew International, a South African company which created the PEPPADEW® brand upon the discovery of the Piquanté Pepper in the mid 90’s. Since then, Peppadew International has become so well known for its Sweet Piquanté Pepper products that the PEPPADEW® brand has become somewhat synonymous with Piquanté Peppers and even cherry peppers. What are “Peppadews” then? Well, there is really no such thing as a peppadew. Rather, Piquanté Peppers are a well-known pepper and while others may incorrectly refer to certain cherry peppers as “peppadews”, there really is only one PEPPADEW® brand.

Although one might think these peppers are the same at first glance, Piquanté Peppers are scientifically identified as a Capsicum baccatum, while Cherry Peppers are considered a Capsicum annuum – meaning that these peppers are a different species to one another. Cherry Peppers are more commonly available and can be grown in a wider variety of geographical areas than Piquanté Peppers. Piquanté Peppers were first discovered by the founder of Peppadew International in the mid 90’s. PEPPADEW® Piquanté Peppers are carefully picked and deseeded by hand, before being pickled in the signature sweet and tangy PEPPADEW® brine.

PEPPADEW® Sweet Piquanté Peppers Mild variants have a capsaicin (Scoville Heat Unit) of 280, with total capsaicinoids (Scoville Heat Units) of < 650. For this reason, these peppers may be said to offer a mild heat but are not considered hot peppers. The unique manufacturing process is what enables Peppadew International to retain the firm and crunchy texture of the pepper without any added preservatives, which would result in a noticeable aftertaste. The best way to describe PEPPADEW® Sweet Piquanté Peppers is the perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavours.

• PEPPADEW® Piquanté Peppers are grown, deseeded by hand and pickled in South Africa.

Our cans and paper sleeves are recyclable; however, the plastic insert inside the cans to keep the peppers submerged in the brine is not.

The boxes in which the PEPPADEW® Bites are delivered are recyclable, however the blue inner bags are not.

All PEPPADEW® products are suitable for vegetarian diets.

Our PEPPADEW® Sweet Piquanté and Sauce ranges are all suitable for Vegan diets.
